The reason we open our doors every morning
Every child here has their own personality, their own favourite things and their own goals. Here are a few of them.
Autism unit
A classroom where autistic children can thrive
Many children using our day service have autism but no learning disability, and have the capacity for academic study. We are opening a separate classroom just for them.
They will be joined by other autistic children who have been excluded from mainstream school because of their need to leave the room. Children living with autism are often misunderstood and treated as if they lack intelligence, yet many are gifted artists and musicians.
Always a way out
Every child can reach the door if they need to leave, and there is a safe space to go to when it all gets too much.
Calm by design
Ear defenders let children block out noise when the room becomes overstimulating, and each child gets tasks built on their strengths.
Qualified staff
The class is run by a qualified special needs teacher and a fully trained teaching assistant.
Specialised equipment for the unit was donated by Layidou, a French organisation that supports the project with equipment for therapy sessions.
